Dip for Jigsaw: Taking the Plunge for Youth Mental Health
When people think about giving, they often think about making a donation. But sometimes giving looks a little different. Sometimes it looks like getting up early on a Saturday morning, pulling on your swimsuit, convincing a few friends to come along, and heading down to Rossnowlagh Beach for a dip in the Atlantic.
That was the spirit behind Dip for Jigsaw.
The idea was simple: bring people together to support youth mental health in Donegal. What followed was a community effort that raised nearly 4,000 euro for Jigsaw Donegal and, perhaps just as importantly, brought together people from across the county around a shared cause.
A community effort
From the beginning, local businesses and community groups got behind the event. Some donated prizes, like the wonderful team at Rossnowlagh Surf School, others shared the event with customers and followers, and many simply encouraged people to get involved.
Sarah from Flow Your Own Way Yoga hosted a yoga class to warm us up before our dip, creating an opportunity for people to connect, slow down and support the cause. Then the wonderful Joe from The Brew Box came on board, providing complimentary tea and coffee and helping to create a welcoming atmosphere, giving participants a place to gather, chat and warm up after taking the plunge.
On Rossnowlagh Beach, you could see the strength of community in action. Groups such as Rossnowlagh Surf Club and Four Masters GAA were there to show their support, while many individuals came along because youth mental health is a cause that touches every community.
Connection in action
At Jigsaw Donegal, we spend a lot of time talking about the importance of connection, belonging, and supportive relationships in young people’s lives. These are some of the protective factors that help young people navigate life’s challenges. Dip for Jigsaw felt like a real-life example of those principles in action.
The event raised an incredible 3,970 euro, which will help Jigsaw continue to provide free mental health supports and programmes for young people across Donegal. But the impact went beyond fundraising. The event created conversations in communities, workplaces, sports clubs, and family homes about the importance of supporting young people’s mental health.
Donegal has a strong tradition of looking out for one another, and Dip for Jigsaw was a reminder of the difference that can make. When a community comes together with a shared purpose, individual acts of generosity add up quickly.
Thank you to everyone who showed up on the day and took the plunge for youth mental health.
