Introducing Our 2026 Theme: Footprints of Giving πŸ‘£

As we began planning for Donegal Giving 2026, we found ourselves reflecting on a simple question: who helped shape the person you are today?

The more we talked, the more stories emerged. Stories of parents and grandparents who made sacrifices. Teachers who saw potential. Friends who stood beside us during difficult times. Employers who gave someone their first opportunity. Neighbours who offered support. Community groups who helped people feel connected and valued.

Different people. Different experiences. Yet there was a common thread running through every story.

Someone had left a footprint.

And that is how our 2026 theme was born.

What Is Footprints of Giving?

When we think about giving, many people immediately think about fundraising or financial donations. While these are important, at Donegal Giving we’ve always believed that giving is much broader than that.

Giving can be offering your time, sharing your talents, passing on wisdom, or creating opportunities for someone else. It can be encouragement, kindness, or simply listening when someone needs to be heard. It can be helping others believe in themselves.

Some of the most valuable gifts we receive in life cost nothing at all β€” a kind word, a piece of advice, an introduction, a chance, a helping hand. These moments often stay with us for years, sometimes for a lifetime. They become part of our story. They help shape who we become.

The Footprints Left for Us

Each of us can look back and identify people who influenced our journey. Perhaps it was someone who encouraged us when our confidence was low. Someone who shared their knowledge and experience. Someone who challenged us to think differently. Someone who simply believed in us before we believed in ourselves.

These people may never fully realise the impact they had. Yet their footprints remain.

As we grow, many of the values, skills and beliefs we carry today can often be traced back to the influence of others.

The Footprints We Leave Behind

Footprints of Giving is not only about looking back. It’s also about looking forward.

Every day, through our actions and interactions, we leave footprints of our own. Whether we realise it or not, we influence the people around us. A conversation can inspire. A gesture can encourage. A kindness can change someone’s day. An opportunity can change someone’s future.

One of the quotes that guided our thinking comes from Maya Angelou: “Your legacy is every life you have touched.”

Legacy isn’t reserved for famous people or those in positions of influence. It’s built through everyday actions β€” through the way we treat people, the opportunities we create, the support we offer, and the kindness we share. Every one of us has the ability to leave positive footprints behind.

What’s Coming in 2026

Over the coming months, we’ll be bringing the Footprints of Giving theme to life through stories, conversations, community initiatives, educational programmes, partnerships and special features. We’ll be exploring the people who helped shape us, the lessons they passed on, and the many ways giving can strengthen individuals, families, workplaces and communities.

The theme will also form the centrepiece of our annual Donegal Giving event at An GrianΓ‘n Theatre on 12 November 2026, where we’ll bring together inspiring speakers, community voices, businesses, educators, charities, social enterprises and individuals from across Donegal.

Bookings will be opening soon, and we have some exciting plans and announcements to share in the months ahead.

A Moment to Reflect

For now, we invite you to take a moment to pause and ask yourself: who left footprints for you? And perhaps even more importantly β€” what footprints are you leaving for others?

Because every act of giving leaves a footprint.

And every footprint has the power to shape a future. πŸ‘£πŸ’š
